VINOUS 93 points
The 2019 Pinot Noir Knox Alexander is ethereal, delicate and flat-out delicious. Crushed flowers, sweet red cherry fruit, game, iron, licorice, dried herbs and orange peel add an exotic flair. This aromatic, mid-weight Pinot is all class. The Knox Alexander is a blend of best barrels from three estate vineyards - Bien Nacido, Le Bon Climat and Rancho La Cuna. - Antonio Galloni
WINE ENTHUSIAST 91 points
Baked raspberry, sandalwood and wild herb aromas show on the slightly tart nose of this blend of Le Bon Climat and Bien Nacido vineyards. The palate lands with a rustic kick of tart pomegranate, salted game and a hint of leather, with herbs popping into the finish. — Matt Kettmann
CATRIONA FALSTEAD MW
Knox Alexander Pinot Noir is an estate selection of the very best parcels from the 58 acres of Pinot Noir planted by Jim Clendenen since 1994. It is intended to showcase the very essence of Au Bon Climat, and the 2019 is a triumph. The 2019 Knox has a lovely, floral, scented nose of red cherries and strawberries with a twist of spice. Unbelievably lighter and more elegant than in the past, the wine has a delicate savoury, umami backbone which brings the focus in on the palate. There is a European feel to the tannins of this wine which are ripe but not sweet, bringing refreshment and making you want another glass. A fine, iron-rich, mineral-slate character combines seamlessly with a gorgeous sweetness on the long strawberry and cured ham-infused finish. Knox is absolutely brilliant in 2019; it is the most refined and subtle Knox we have ever tasted. Drink now to 2042.
