Description
IN BRIEF
Bertrand Ambroise Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru ‘Vaucrains’ 2019 is a poised, terroir-driven Pinot Noir. Deep ruby in the glass, it offers ripe red cherry and blackberry framed by wild herbs, delicate spice and discreet oak. As it breathes, truffle and damp forest floor lend savoury complexity beneath a core of dark fruit. Medium-bodied and elegant, polished tannins provide structure while lively acidity keeps the palate focused. There is a whisper of minerality toward the finish, which is long and refined, leaving spicy dark-fruit echoes. Best enjoyed with coq au vin or mushroom risotto. Vinous 89–91: “supple tannins, red and black fruit, moderate acidity; integrated new oak; drink 2025–2040.” A refined, cellar-worthy expression of Vaucrains. Offers immediate appeal yet rewards patient cellaring.

VINOUS 89 -91 points
The 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Vaucrains 1er Cru is matured entirely in new oak, and on this occasion, the new wood is neatly integrated, sufficient fruit allowing the terroir to show through. More red fruit in evidence compared to Ambroise’s other cuvées, and fine delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a mixture of red and black fruit and moderate acidity. I wish there was more complexity and mineralité toward the finish after the impressive aromatics. I would be interested to revisit this Vaucrains in a cooler growing season.
