Description
The 2020 Meursault 1er Cru Perrières is an exceptional wine that highlights the unique characteristics of the terroir, receiving 92-94+ points from The Wine Advocate. This wine exhibits a captivating bouquet, featuring enticing aromas of citrus, crisp orchard fruits, wet stones, and freshly baked bread. On the palate, it showcases enormous depth with a satiny texture, balanced by a vibrant spine of acidity and a long, saline finish. Vinous also commends this cuvée, noting its detailed nose with citrus and flint aromas alongside a well-balanced palate. While it reveals a certain fullness and finesse, the wine may benefit from a touch of patience, as it promises to develop even more complexity and character with a few years of bottle age.
*****
Maison Bouchard Père & Fils has been championing Burgundy’s spirit and values for the past 300 years. Settled in the Château de Beaune since 1820, its wines benefit from the best ageing conditions in the underground galleries of this royal fortress from the 15th century. The Bouchard Père & Fils Estate holds some of the finest plots in the most prestigious Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune vineyards with more than two-thirds planted in Grands Crus and Premiers Crus appellations.
The same, exclusive high standards underpin every single wine that is matured at the Maison. Vinegrowers, workers and the cellar master share the same values: respecting the integrity of the grape and the unique features of the terroirs. Through an approach that exclude any artificial method in favour of gentle, precise winemaking where each cuvée is left to mature naturally, at its own pace.
A subtle bouquet of white flowers on the nose with a bit of coxing. On the palate, the wine shows enormous depth, with a mouthfilling texture that remains quite tight. Will need a little patience but expect this to be spectacular with a few years bottle age.
THE WINE ADVOCATE (92-94)+ points
The 2020 Meursault 1er Cru Perrières is excellent, exhibiting citrus, crisp orchard fruit, wet stones, freshly baked bread and praline. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and incisive, with a tangy spine of acidity and a long, saline finish, it's a tensile, penetrating wine that shows considerable promise. - Reviewed by William Kelley, Issue Date 20th Jan 2022, Source January 2022 Week 3, The Wine Advocate
VINOUS (90-92) points
The 2020 Meursault Les Perrières 1er Cru has a detailed nose with citrus fruit and flint aromas unfolding in the glass. This has a "steady" feel to it, aromatics that don’t wish to create too much of a fuss. The palate is balanced with good weight, fine acidity, quite saline but like other Perrieres, it is missing a bit of tension and mineralité on the finish. - Neal Martin
