A Deeper Dive;
Chateau Beychevelle
Château Beychevelle, located on the prestigious left bank of the Gironde River, boasts a rich history and an expansive estate covering 250 hectares. Of these, 90 hectares are under vine. The Château's unique terroir, characterised by its varied soil composition of gravel, clay, and limestone, significantly influences the quality and complexity; and with its diverse soil composition, allows for excellent drainage and optimal growing conditions, contributing to the development of rich flavours and robust tannins.
Beyond the vineyards, Château Beychevelle is home to lush grasslands, where Limousin cattle graze, and dense forests containing pine, ash, poplar, and walnut trees. This diverse landscape forms a vibrant ecosystem that supports a wide range of flora and fauna, enhancing the estate's biodiversity.
Nestled within the heart of the Saint-Julien appellation, one of Bordeaux's most acclaimed wine regions, Château Beychevelle benefits from an ideal microclimate. The combination of maritime influences from the nearby Atlantic Ocean and the moderated temperatures provided by the Gironde estuary help to maintain balanced growing conditions throughout the season. This nurturing environment is integral to crafting the château's signature grands vins, which are celebrated for their elegance, depth, and structure.

JAMES SUCKLING - 94-95 Points
"The tannins are very well-integrated with lovely bright fruit of currants and blackberries. Medium to full body. Vivid and pretty. 54% cabernet sauvignon, 42% merlot and 4% petit verdot."

THE WINE ADVOCATE - 92-94 Points
"Unwinding in the glass with aromas of dark berries, cherries and cassis mingled with hints of violets and licorice, framed by creamy new oak, the 2022 Beychevelle is medium to full-bodied, velvety and layered, with a fleshy core of fruit framed by rich, unusually suave and polished tannins in the context of recent vintages at this address. It's a blend of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot and 4% Petit Verdot, with a pH of 3.85, quite typical for this address." Reviewed by: William Kelley 04/23
DECANTER - 95 Points
"Supple, rich and velvety. Great delineation of tannins and fruit with creamy blueberries and cola touches alongside savoury elements of dark chocolate, liquorice and salt. Structured, fresh and well worked, this feels sophisticated, focussed and confident. It's missing a touch of acidity, but this has plenty of polish, seduction and potential to age. A yield of 36hl/ha." Reviewed by Georgina Hindle 04/23
