Description
The 2022 Clos René offers a captivating glimpse into the charm of Pomerol, garnering impressive ratings including 93-94 points from James Suckling. He praises its pretty profile, featuring a medium body, a solid core of fruit, and a juicy finish with notes of chocolate and walnut. Vinous rated it 91 points, characterizing it as a heady, old-school Pomerol with dark cherry, leather, and spice, despite the challenges posed by the lighter, drier soils in 2022. Decanter awarded it 89 points, noting its richly nuanced and perfumed nose, though pointing to a slightly ripe and alcoholic profile, with a mouthfeel filled by tannins and some stalky edges. Despite these elements, the wine displays a strong showing, making it an enjoyable choice for lovers of sophisticated Pomerol.

JAMES SUCKLING 93-94 points
Very pretty Clos Rene with a medium body, solid core of fruit and a juicy finish. Chocolate. Walnut. Flavorful and reserved.
VINOUS 91 points
The 2022 Clos René is a heady, old-school Pomerol. Dark cherry, worn-in leather, spice and tobacco fill in the layers. This sector in Pomerol, where soils are lighter and drier, was especially challenged in 2022. Consequently, the fruit profile here leans toward the slightly roasted side of the spectrum. All things considered, this is a strong showing for the year. - Antonio Galloni
DECANTER 91 points

A ferrous nose with striking aromas of iron, strawberries and cherries. Clean and clear, this has an immediate brightness from the acidity which then settles with a chalky, iron grip towards the finish. Lots of sticky liquorice and cedar spice which will settle in time. Stops a little short but not too rich or intense, a lightly framed Pomerol. This has mellowed a lot from Primeurs and is now softer and more approachable.
