Based in Pommard, Domaine Comte Armand dates back to 1828 and is ranked amongst the greatest red wine producers in Burgundy. For almost 170 years the domaine produced wine from a small 5 hectare monopole called Clos des Epeneaux. It wasn’t until 1994 that the domaine expanded and began tending to vines in Volnay and later Auxey-Duresses, taking the total size of the domaine to 9 hectares. The modern era effectively began with Pascal Marchand, who was succeeded as winemaker by Benjamin Leroux. When Ben left in 2014 to focus on his own business, Paul Zinetti took the reins. Zinetti has continued to deliver some outstanding terroir-driven wines and maintains the biodynamic principles established by his predecessor.
Paul’s village Volnay comes from two parcels: some younger vines from Les Famines and a proportion of older vines from Grand Champs. This is floral and vibrant with pure notes of bright, red fruits which linger on the palate. It is an elegant and charming wine.
Jasper Morris MW: 89-92 points - "Mid crimson to purple, with some reduction on the nose. A concentrated dark raspberry fruit, still with this reductive element. If and when that clears there is a fine long finish to look forward to instead. Impressive fruit in the end, so scored on the asu, mption that the reduction will clear." Drink 2028 - 2034.
