Description
The 2023 Chassagne-Montrachet Blanc Morgeot Clos de la Chapelle 1er Cru has received notable attention from Jasper Morris MW, particularly for its impressive qualities. The 2022 vintage features grapes from the 2012 planting, which are harvested earlier than the older vines, enhancing its freshness. It presents a mid-purple colour and has developed a reductive nose, which adds a new layer of complexity since the last tasting. On the palate, the wine delivers an explosion of ripe raspberry and redcurrant flavours, showcasing a remarkable balance of fruit and acidity. This vibrant wine is incredibly expressive and enticing, with the potential for further development. It’s recommended for enjoyment from 2030 to 2038, allowing it to fully unfold its character.
*****
Domaine de la Vougeraie, located in Prémeaux, just south of Nuits-Saint-Georges, was established in 1999 by Jean-Claude Boisset of the Boisset group. The creation of the winery involved consolidating vineyard holdings from various negociant companies that Boisset had acquired over the years. The name "Vougeraie" reflects the significant vineyards and the family home situated in the village of Vougeot, while the production facilities are housed in the historic cellars once belonging to Claudine Deschamps, Jean-Claude Boisset's wife.
The domaine is committed to high-quality production, using biodynamic farming practices in its premier and grand cru vineyards to ensure the health of the vines and terroir. With carefully limited yields, Domaine de la Vougeraie produces elegant and expressive wines that reflect the unique characteristics of Burgundy, showcasing its dedication to craftsmanship and sustainability in winemaking. The estate's focus on biodynamic principles positions it as a forward-thinking producer in the region, earning acclaim among wine enthusiasts and collectors.
Aged for 16 months in Tronçais oak barrels (20% new, long slow toasting). Stirring of the lees: twice a month during the fruit days and rising moon until December. Light and soft filtration. No fining.
JASPER MORRIS MW, Inside Burgundy (November 2023)
The 2022 Clos de Thorey includes the 2012 planting which is picked earlier than the older vines. Mid purple, with a reductive nose that is new since last week, says Sylvie, when this wine was a ball of fruit. It still is in the mouth, mind you, quite an explosion of raspberry and ripe redcurrant, with a very good fruit/acid balance to finish. Drink 2030 - 2038.
