Description
The 2017 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru is a captivating wine that demonstrates the exceptional quality of Bourgogne. Earning 96 points from James Suckling, this wine is described as seductive, with aromatic notes of roses and spices, complemented by rich, polished tannins that deliver a tidal wave of flavor on the supple finish. Vinous awarded it 90-92 points, highlighting its medium-bodied profile with alluring floral notes and an attractive spicy finish, although noting it lacks some finesse compared to its peers. Jancis Robinson scored it 17.5 points, finding the wine slightly unusual on the nose with a medicinal touch and oak spice, presenting a tighter, more elegant structure. This Charmes-Chambertin, hailing from 70-year-old vines, promises an enriching experience, showing its potential best with some aging.

JAMES SUCKLING 96 points
Lots of roses and spice make this seductive, in spite of its youth. Rich and very suave with very polished tannins, which build to form a tidal wave at the supple finish. Better from 2022.
VINOUS 90-92 points
The 2017 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru comes from a single hectare that came from Faiveley’s purchase of Dupont-Tisserandot. The parcels lie right across the road from Chambertin, and the vines are around 70 years old.
This has a slightly smudged, floral bouquet that gains clarity with aeration, but does not quite have the delineation of its peers. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin and good grip, quite Mazoyères-like in terms of structure, and an attractive spicy finish. It maybe just lacks the finesse of the very finest Charmes-Chambertins.
JANCIS ROBINSON 17.5 points
Cask sample. Light to mid crimson. Rather unusual on the nose, almost a touch medicinal, like cough linctus; oak spice too. Much tighter and slightly leaner than the Grands Echezeaux. More elegant. (JH)
