Slightly closed on the initial attack, this elegant wine opens in time with a pleasant aroma of spice-scented plums and figs. The texture is balanced and silky, with well-managed tannins and a lingering finish. One might hope for more depth, but the overall effect is eminently drinkable. The grapes are from a hectare of vines averaging 50 years that are destemmed and gently fermented before ageing a year in cask (half new). This should drink well on release.
JAMES SUCKLING 90 points
A nicely savory Mercurey with notes of currants, spiced plums and mushrooms. Toasty undertones. It’s medium-bodied and relatively firm. Drink now or hold.
