The 2020 Saint-Joseph is a 100% Syrah made from vines that are up to 50-years-old aged for 16 months is second year oak barrels.
It is a finely crafted wine that has received 91 points from James Suckling. It is characterised by a well-built, velvety texture and aromas of dark cherries, grilled meat, dried herbs, and crushed stones. Medium-bodied with fine, firm tannins, it features a chalky texture and pulpy cherry character, culminating in a focused finish. The Wine Advocate rates it at 90 points, noting its reserved nature when first opened, revealing enticing aromas of licorice, black pepper, and garrigue, along with notes of mulberry and dark berries. This wine is supple and seamless, offering elegance and juiciness with a long, sapid, gently spicy finish, making it an excellent choice for enjoyment from 2025 to 2030.

The 2020 Saint-Joseph from Maison Guigal is still somewhat reserved, opening in the glass with aromas of licorice, black pepper and garrigue, mingled with notes of mulberry and dark berries. Medium- to full-bodied, supple and seamless, it’s elegant and juicy, concluding with a long, sapid and gently spicy finish. This is a fine, classically proportioned Saint-Joseph.
