Description
The 2018 Falletto di Bruno Giacosa Barbaresco DOCG exemplifies the legacy of one of the world’s legendary winemakers, who dedicated nearly eight decades to crafting prestigious Barolo and Barbaresco wines. Bruno Giacosa, a third-generation member of his Langhe family, was renowned for his pursuit of perfection and deep knowledge of Piedmont's vineyards. In 1980, he began acquiring prime parcels to produce exceptional Nebbiolo wines, and now his daughter Bruna continues his philosophy of respecting traditional techniques while embracing modern technology. The 2018 release, the first since 2014, is a blend of the esteemed Asili and Rabajá vineyards, offering aromas of ripe fruit, roasted coffee beans, and dark chocolate, with a generous palate balanced by tension and fine-grained tannins, ideal for drinking from 2023 to 2035.
*****
One of the legendary winemakers of the world, Bruno Giacosa crafted the most prestigious single-vineyard Barolo and Barbaresco wines during a career that spanned nearly eight decades. He joined the family business at the age of 15, representing the third generation of his Langhe family. Giacosa’s unfailing pursuit of perfection, his unrivaled palate and his intimate knowledge of vineyards in the Langhe quickly drew recognition and helped establish Piedmont as a leading wine region.
In 1980, Giacosa began to acquire prime parcels to produce wines that are rightly regarded as the finest expressions of Nebbiolo. His legacy rests with daughter Bruna, who continues to uphold her father’s winemaking philosophy to respect traditional techniques while using the best of modern technology. The goal is for each distinguished site to produce articulate, unique wines.
Due to a small crop, no Asili or Rabajá were bottled in 2018. This release, the first since 2014, comprises a blend of the two great vineyards, revealing notes of ripe fruit, roasted coffee beans and dark chocolate, with hints of raspberries coulis and morello cherries. The palate is generous, but balanced with tension and precision, framed by a firm, fine-grained tannic structure. Drink from 2023 to 2035.
