Joining the family business at age 15, he exemplifies the third generation of his Langhe winemaking family, and his relentless pursuit of perfection, along with a deep knowledge of Piedmont’s vineyards, has greatly elevated the region's reputation. The 2022 vintage showcases a closed, mineral nose with enticing notes of flint, graphite, dry flowers, sour cherries, and wild raspberries. On the palate, it offers a generous, round texture with firm, grippy tannins that exhibit precise balance and length. Scoring 97 points from James Suckling, this wine features sweet berries, smoke, and cedar, promising a complex experience worthy of aging, best enjoyed after 2026.
*****
One of the legendary winemakers of the world, Bruno Giacosa crafted the most prestigious single-vineyard Barolo and Barbaresco wines during a career that spanned nearly eight decades. He joined the family business at the age of 15, representing the third generation of his Langhe winemaking family. Giacosa’s unfailing pursuit of perfection, his unrivaled palate and his intimate knowledge of vineyards in the Langhe quickly drew recognition and helped establish Piedmont as a leading wine region.
In 1980, Giacosa began to acquire prime parcels in Serralunga d’Alba, La Morra and Barbaresco to produce wines that are rightly regarded as the finest expressions of Nebbiolo. His legacy rests with daughter Bruna, who continues to uphold her father’s winemaking philosophy to respect traditional techniques while using the best of modern technology. The goal is for each distinguished site to produce articulate, unique wines.
Closed and mineral on the nose, very precise and distinguished. The notes of flint and graphite are accentuated by an ethereal expression of dry flowers, sour cherry, and wild raspberries. Generous and round texture on the palate, firm and grippy tannic structure, precise balance and length. Drink from 2022.
JAMES SUCKLING 97 points
Sweet berries, smoke, cedar and olives on the nose. Floral. Full-bodied with firm, chewy tannins and a pretty background and ripe fruit. Flavorful finish. Hints of bitter citrus and smoke, too. Very complex. Powerful for Falletto. Drink after 2026.
