JAMES SUCKLING 93 points
I like the subtle smoky and mineral elements to the red-fruit aromas. It’s cool, bright and stony, medium-bodied, with very fine, tight tannins. Focused and structured. Drink from 2025.

VINOUS 90 points
Drinking Window 2024 - 2029
From: South Africa: Where Are We Now? (Sep 2024)
The 2020 Pinot Noir GPS Series Walker Bay comes from two parcels Kershaw identified, planted with the PN777 clone on Bokkeveld shale. Fully destemmed, it aged for 10-11 months in 24% new oak (76.1% in 228-liter barrels and 23.9% in 500-liter…Richard Kershaw is precise in such matters.) It is pleasantly understated, bordering on herbaceous on the nose. In some ways, the aromatics come across as a little more mature than the wine’s age would suggest. Hints of tomato vine filter through the redcurrant and pomegranate aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins. Harmonious, clean and pure, there is a slight candied element that takes me to the New World rather than Burgundy. Modest in length and very approachable, enjoy this well-crafted Pinot over the next four to five years. - By Neal Martin on August 2024
