ABOUT THIS WINE
The 2019 M. Chapoutier Hermitage Monier de la Sizeranne is a distinguished wine that exemplifies the depth and complexity characteristic of the Hermitage appellation. This vintage showcases a deep garnet red colour, illuminated by purplish highlights, indicating its richness and vibrancy.

On the nose, the wine entices with aromas of red fruits, prominently featuring raspberry and blackcurrant, complemented by a hint of liquorice that adds complexity to the bouquet. These inviting scents set the stage for a delightful tasting experience.

On the palate, the 2019 Monier de la Sizeranne demonstrates a good attack, revealing a round and elegant character. The concentrated yet gentle tannins create a smooth mouthfeel, contributing to the wine's overall balance. Flavours of blackcurrant and raspberry dominate, with a touch of spicy pepper notes emerging as the wine unfolds, particularly in its youthful stage.

The wine's composition is influenced by a blend of different soils sourced from the Hermitage region, adding to its unique character

:“Les Bessards”: Granitic soil that serves as the backbone of the wine.
“Le Méal”: Comprising old alluvial terraces rich in gravel and calcareous shingles, contributing complexity.
“Les Greffieux”: Silty soil with shingles, enhancing minerality.

Vinification is conducted with care, where the grapes are entirely destemmed and fermented in concrete tanks. Daily treadings (one to two) ensure optimal extraction, with fermentation temperatures maintained between 30 and 33°C.

The wine is aged for 18 months, with 85% matured in oak barrels, imparting subtle notes of wood, while the remaining 15% is aged in concrete tanks to preserve its freshness and minerality.

For food pairings, the 2019 Hermitage Monier de la Sizeranne shines alongside venison fillet in red wine sauce and roasted beef. It also pairs beautifully with mature "Saint Félicien" cheese, enhancing the overall dining experience.

Overall, this vintage exemplifies the finesse and complexity of Hermitage wines, offering a sophisticated expression that is both enjoyable now and worthy of cellaring for future enjoyment.

JAMES SUCKLING 95 points
At once rich and fleshy, but also deeply and firmly structured, this Hermitage has a ton of smoke, leather and animal aromas. With some aeration a balsamic note emerges. Dense, inky finish, but in a very positive way. Excellent balance and vitality that suggests it has long aging potential. From biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification. Drinkable now, but best from 2025.

Drink Date: 2023 - 2035
Blended from the lieux-dits of les Bessards, Greffieux, le Méal and les Beaumes, Chapoutier's 2019 Hermitage Monier de la Sizeranne offers up scents of cedar, leather, spice, dried cherries and fresh plums. It's full-bodied, rich and almost creamy on the palate, then softly dusty on the long finish. While not as concentrated or cellar-worthy as the various selections parcellaires, it's still a worthy effort, not an afterthought.

VINOUS 93 points
Deep violet color. Dark berries, cherry-cola and olive on the nose, along with suggestions of potpourri and allspice. Densely packed and chewy in texture, offering deep black and blue fruit, cracked pepper and smoky bacon flavors that show excellent fine definition and back-end lift. Closes with a very long and smoky, strong, mineral drive, a repeating pepper note and a firm tannic grip. - Josh Raynolds
