ABOUT THIS WINE
2020 Ridge Vineyards Lytton Springs showcases the exceptional craftsmanship and terroir of the Dry Creek Valley, bringing together a finely balanced blend of varietals. According to the winemakers’ notes, late spring rains during flowering reduced fruit set across all varieties, particularly affecting the Petite Sirah. Despite this, the harvest yielded fruit of remarkable quality, with thirty-eight blocks picked at ideal ripeness over four weeks from August to September. Of these, twenty-six blocks were selected for their rich black fruit and perfectly balanced structure, resulting in what is considered a classic Lytton Springs.

In the glass, the 2020 Lytton Springs presents with vibrant colour and a bouquet that highlights its powerful character. This vintage displays an extra degree of aromatic brightness and lift that is characteristic of the year. The nose is inviting, featuring notes of ripe plum and blueberry that captivate the senses.

On the palate, the wine reveals a terrific breadth of ripe fruit flavours, set against a backdrop of energy and length. The blend consists of 79% Zinfandel, 11% Petite Sirah, and 10% Carignane, with each varietal contributing its unique attributes to the overall profile. The Zinfandel provides the wine's hallmark lushness, while the Petite Sirah adds depth and structure, and the Carignane enhances the complexity of flavours.

The finish is long and expressive, showcasing the balance and harmony of the components. This classic Lytton Springs is expected to age gracefully, remaining enjoyable over the next ten years. Whether paired with hearty dishes or enjoyed on its own, the 2020 Ridge Vineyards Lytton Springs is a delightful expression of Ridge's commitment to quality and excellence in winemaking.

JAMES SUCKLING 95 points
This has lots of horizontal tannins that provide fine muscle and form. It's medium- to full-bodied with freshness and brightness. Red berries, crushed cloves and other spices. Grapey, for a better word. Sophisticated. Chewy, Needs time to soften. Zinfandel with petite sirah and carignan. Drinkable now, but better with two or three years of bottle age.

VINOUS 93 points
The 2020 Lytton Springs is a very pretty wine. Bright floral and spice accents open first. Silky and medium in body, with plenty of persistence and fine balance, the 2020 is pretty impressive, especially for the year. Zinfandel character really drives the feel in 2020. A burst of red/purplish fruit, rose petal, cinnamon and dried herbs lingers on the open-knit, intensely perfumed finish. -- Antonio Galloni
