Description
Robert Ampeau was a legendary figure, widely recognised as one of the most esteemed winemakers in the Burgundy, and celebrated for producing some of the finest, most age-worthy Pinot Noir in the world. A defining characteristic of Domaine Robert Ampeau is its unwavering dedication to traditional winemaking, deeply rooted in strict organic principles and sustainable viticulture.
In the cellar, the wines are crafted with patience and meticulous care. They are typically aged well beyond legal requirements, allowing them to develop extraordinary complexity, character, and longevity. This extended aging process is at the heart of the Domaine’s philosophy and imparts a distinctive style and personality to each bottle.
His son Michel has taken over the property after Robert's pasing in 2004. Recently, Michel made the decision to release a small parcel of the 1997 and 2002 vintages made by his father Robert. their are in their peak drinking window.
The 'Clos du Roi' 1er Cru is one of the earliest ripening sites in the Côte de Beaune and the splendid summer weather gave a lovely, sunny, warm wine with magnificent, meaty aromas. It has excellent structure with a generous, long finish.
