Description
Brothers Nicolas and David Rossignol were amongst the first to convert their 13 hectare domaine to biodynamic viticulture over 20 years ago.
2023 is one of their most successful years ever. Two green harvests were performed in the summer to reduce the abundant crop and the grapes were picked at excellent levels of maturity. Approximately 50% of the bunches were destemmed, slightly less than in 2022, and extraction was gentle with only a light pressing of the skins. The wines were aged, as usual, in 228 litre barrels from tonnelleries Rousseau and Chassin.
As the name implies, this fine climat lies adjacent to the grand cru of Chapelle-Chambertin and shares many of its characteristics. The cooler, clay soil takes longer to warm up in the spring and gives a structured wine with both freshness and density. Finishes long and sweet. Drink 2028-2035.
VINOUS - 90-92 Points
"The 2023 Gevrey-Chambertin Petite Chapelle 1er Cru has some of the best aromatics amongst the Domaine's Premier Crus, with finely delineated, lifted scents of Morello cherries and crushed strawberries. The palate is medium-bodied with excellent grip and structure. Perhaps like other cuvées, it just tails off a little toward the finish, where I am seeking more flesh to cover those tannins—but it is enjoyable all the same." Reviewed by Neal Martin
