Scoring 93 points from The Wine Advocate, this wine displays a rich texture with shapely flavours of forest berries, cherry, and spice, complemented by earthy notes of potting soil. Its smooth, glossy texture features integrated tannins, offering immediate appeal. Vinous rates it 94 points, highlighting a dark, rich nose with ripe black cherry, sweet herbs, tobacco, and mocha. On the palate, soft textures yield to sweet red fruits, showcasing wonderful purity and finesse. The long, energetic finish features brisk acidity, with lingering hints of red berry fruit and floral notes, making it an outstanding choice for enjoyment through 2030.

Sesti is a distinguished winery located in the Montalcino region of Tuscany, Italy, celebrated for its exceptional Brunello di Montalcino and high-quality wines. Founded in 1975 by the Sesti family, the estate spans approximately 25 hectares of vineyards situated at high altitudes, benefiting from a unique microclimate and well-drained soils rich in clay and limestone. The winery emphasizes sustainable viticulture and organic practices, focusing primarily on the Sangiovese grape variety, which is integral to their Brunello. The Sesti 2015 Brunello di Montalcino offers rich texture and shapely fruit flavors with plenty of forest berry, cherry, spice and potting soil. This Brunello opens to a very smooth, almost glossy texture with tannins that have already integrated at the five-year point following the harvest. That aged smoothness and silkiness gives this wine immediate appeal. The oak feels well integrated within the more opulent texture of the fruit.

The nose is dark and rich, showing ripe black cherry and sweet herbs, with notes of tobacco, hints of mocha, and brown spice. On the palate, soft textures give way to sweet red fruits, showing wonderful purity and finesse, which was completely unexpected following the powerful bouquet that greeted me, as the 2015 Sesti becomes even more savory in the glass. The finish is long, energetic yet clean, with brisk acids making the mouth water, and remnants of red berry fruit and inner florals echoing throughout.
