Description

Widely celebrated for bringing Burgundian elegance to Germany, Weingut Bernhard Huber is a pioneering estate in the Baden region that crafts profound, terroir-driven wines. Bernhard Huber, often hailed as a visionary, almost single-handedly redefined the perception of German Pinot Noir (Spätburgunder) and, by extension, other varietals like Chardonnay. Their meticulous approach in Malterdingen focuses on minimal intervention, allowing the unique soil and climate to shine through in every bottle, making their wines sought after by connoisseurs worldwide.

The 2023 vintage presented a notably warm growing season, necessitating precise vineyard management, including careful canopy work and yield control, to yield Chardonnay grapes with vibrant acidity and optimal ripeness. This careful stewardship ensured a wine that perfectly balances lush fruit with characteristic tension.

This Malterdinger Chardonnay presents a captivating aroma of crisp green apple, vibrant lemon zest, and a distinct flinty minerality that speaks volumes of its origin. A subtle whisper of white blossom and a delicate hint of freshly baked brioche add further sophistication. On the palate, it delivers a beautifully textured and precise experience. There is an immediate richness without heaviness, a creamy, almost silken quality that coats the tongue. Flavours of juicy white peach and elegantly toasted hazelnut are perfectly balanced by a striking, almost saline acidity that creates incredible tension and freshness. The finish is exceptionally long and mouthwatering, leaving an elegant trail of citrus and crushed stone. This is a profound expression of Baden's potential for world-class white wines.
