Description

Château Chasse-Spleen is one of the top houses in Moulis-en-Médoc. It is not a Grand Cru Classé, but it is not inferior in quality and even performs better on a regular basis.

Very exceptional and a classic among the white Bordeaux wines. Château Chasse-Spleen mainly produces red wines, but on a small part of 1.8 hectares, sauvignon blanc and semillon are grown for the production of a white bordeaux. The Blanc de Chasse-Spleen has a beautiful light yellow color with a fresh nose of citrus, melon grape fruit and citrus blossom. The wine has a nice soft start, impressions of ripe white fruit, passion fruit and mango together with well-dosed wood. Fresh, rich and aromatic. The wine is a blend of approx. 65% semillon, 35% sauvignon blanc and has a drinking window of at least 10 years.

A Deeper Dive;

Château Chasse-Spleen

Château Chasse-Spleen is a delightful gem nestled in the heart of the Moulis-en-Médoc area, showcasing the charm and beauty of Bordeaux. Spanning around 90 hectares, this estate has become known for its exceptional wines; with its vineyard benefitting from a mix of gravel and clay soils, allowing the grapes to thrive, resulting in bold and flavourful wines that are a joy to savour.

The team at Château Chasse-Spleen pours their heart and soul into every bottle, blending tradition with a modern touch to create wines that truly tell the story of their dedication to quality and craftsmanship, ensuring that each wine remains a delightful experience, making every sip a little celebration of the beauty of Bordeaux.

The landscape around the Château is just as captivating as the wines it produces. Surrounded by lush greenery and vibrant plants, the estate is a sanctuary for various wildlife, which adds to its remarkable biodiversity. Château Chasse-Spleeen is also perfectly positioned, just a stone's throw from the Gironde River. This proximity to the water helps create a favorable microclimate, with warm days and cool nights that contribute to the grapes' optimal ripening conditions. It's this special climate that allows the estate to produce wines that are not only rich and complex but also elegant and approachable.

Chasse-Spleen's wines were always noteworthy, though the quality improved dramatically with its acquisition by the Taillan Group, which also owns Château Haut-Bages-Libéral, in 1976. It was run by Bernadette Villars until she and her husband were killed in an accident while hiking in the Pyrénées in 1992. The property is now run by her daughter Claire.
