Description

Domaine Gagnard Delagrange Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot 2023 is an elegant and finely detailed white that marries ripe fruit generosity with the village s classic mineral clarity. The colour is pale gold with a luminous core. The nose opens with white peach, ripe pear and lemon zest, followed by floral notes of acacia and honeysuckle. With gentle airing the bouquet gains complexity, revealing toasted almond, pastry crust and a subtle beeswax nuance from measured lees time, while a faint crushed stone mineral thread speaks of Morgeot s limestone clays.

On the palate the wine is medium plus in weight with a silky, expansive mid palate and bright, precise acidity that keeps the profile fresh and energetic. Primary fruit of white peach and pear is complemented by lemon curd and a fine green apple seam. Lees contact adds a creamy texture and gentle brioche note without compromising clarity, while a discreet touch of vanilla and toasted spice from careful oak ageing frames rather than dominates. A chalky phenolic grip gives structure and length, and the finish is long, saline and slightly nutty with a lingering citrus and almond echo.

The 2023 vintage produced expressive fruit tempered by retained acidity, and at Morgeot this yields a wine that is approachable now yet built to develop further complexity. Serve well chilled but not too cold to allow aromatics to open. Drink 2026 to 2034, peaking 2028 to 2032. Pair with lobster thermidor, seared scallops, sole meuniere, creamy mushroom risotto or roast chicken with lemon and thyme to showcase the wine s balance of texture, minerality and floral fruit.

ABOUT DOMAINE GAGNARD-DELAGRANGE
Domaine Gagnard Delagrange is a small family owned estate based in Chambolle Musigny, respected for elegant, terroir led Pinot Noir and a growing reputation for carefully made white Burgundy sourced from Chassagne Montrachet. The domaine remains in family hands, with the current generation managing vineyard work, cellar operations and commercial matters, ensuring continuity of style and close attention to parcel expression.

Vineyards are concentrated in Chambolle Musigny with selected holdings or sourced parcels in neighbouring communes and in Chassagne Montrachet for the white bottlings. Soils of limestone and marl in the Cote d Or and the calcareous clay of Chassagne give distinct signatures to red and white wines respectively. Vineyard practice stresses low yields, precise canopy management and selective hand harvesting so that grapes reach balanced ripeness while preserving natural acidity. Older vines contribute depth and nuance, while younger plantings supply freshness and delineation between plots.

Winemaking is family led and focuses on minimal intervention to reveal site identity. Red cuvees are often vinified parcel by parcel, with a mix of whole bunch and destemmed techniques used according to vineyard and vintage to tune structure and aromatics. The white wines from Chassagne are treated with equal care: gentle whole bunch or pneumatic pressing, careful settling and temperature controlled fermentation are followed by élevage in French oak using mainly older barrels to add texture without masking mineral clarity. Lees contact is employed selectively to build mouthfeel while preserving primary citrus and stone fruit notes.

Stylistically the domaine’s reds show red cherry, wild strawberry, floral perfume and a fine mineral thread with silky tannins. The whites typically display lemon peel, white peach, white blossom and a pronounced stony finish, combining freshness with textured weight. Both red and white bottlings reward careful cellaring yet offer immediate appeal in good vintages. Through sustained family stewardship, precise vineyard work and respectful cellar craft, Domaine Gagnard Delagrange delivers authentic, balanced wines that express their respective terroirs.
