Description

IN BRIEF
Domaine Joseph Pascal Meursault 2022 is an elegant, expressive Meursault that mixes generous texture with a mineral backbone. Pale gold with a faint green rim, it scents of lemon blossom, white peach and poached pear, then shows toasted almond, brioche and a stony crushed shell seam. Time in the glass teases acacia and a hint of spice. Medium bodied with a creamy mid palate and lively acidity, flavours of citrus pith, ripe peach and quince sit over a saline mineral thread that keeps it fresh. The finish is long with citrus oil and a gentle bitter almond note. Serve 10 to 12°C. Lovely with scallops, grilled white fish, lobster or Comte. Drink now to 2030.

ABOUT THIS WINE
Domaine Joseph Pascal Meursault 2022 is an elegant, expressive white that balances Meursault generosity with a poised mineral backbone. Pale gold with a faint green rim, the wine catches the light with a gentle sheen and moderate viscosity. The nose opens with lemon blossom, white peach and poached pear, then reveals nutty tones of toasted almond and a whisper of brioche that point to subtle elevage rather than overt oak treatment. Underneath there is a stony, crushed shell note and a touch of hay that give the bouquet definition and a clear sense of place. Time in the glass brings delicate floral hints of acacia and a faint hint of spice that adds complexity without claiming the stage.

On the palate the wine is medium bodied, offering a creamy mid palate texture that is counterbalanced by lively, refreshing acidity. Citrus pith and orchard fruits sit at the core, with ripe peach and a hint of quince adding weight and a gentle ripeness. The lees influence provides a silky mouthfeel and savoury complexity, knitting the elements together while keeping the fruit vivid. A saline mineral thread runs through, lending tension and focus and reinforcing the cool climate character of the vintage. The mid palate is precise and layered, showing energy rather than opulence.

The finish is long and satisfying, leaving lingering impressions of citrus oil, crushed stone and a delicate bitter almond note that invites another sip. Despite its textural richness the 2022 remains polished and precise, showing immediate appeal and the structure to age gracefully for several years. It benefits from brief aeration to open out though it does not demand extended decanting. Serve well chilled but not ice cold, around 10 to 12°C. Pair with roasted or grilled white fish, scallops, lobster, creamy poultry dishes or soft cheeses such as aged goat or Comte. Drink now to enjoy its vibrant fruit and texture, or cellar through to the late 2020s to allow tertiary nutty and honeyed notes to emerge and the acidity to integrate further.

ABOUT DOMAINE JOSEPH PASCAL
Domaine Joseph Pascal is a small, family run estate in Burgundy noted for producing terroir-driven wines that emphasise clarity, balance and traditional Burgundian expression. The domaine farms modest holdings across village and premier cru sites depending on the specific family parcels, typically focusing on Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Soils comprise the region’s characteristic limestone and marl which favour precise mineral lift and fine tannic structure.

The property remains in family hands and retains a hands-on approach to both vineyard work and cellar practice. Management is typically overseen by a member of the Pascal family who directs day to day operations and decisions, often with the involvement of successive generations to preserve continuity and local knowledge. The domaine’s modest scale allows close attention to each parcel and careful selection at harvest.

Viticulture places emphasis on low yields, canopy management and selective hand harvesting to ensure optimal ripeness and healthy fruit. Where appropriate the team employs reduced-input practices to protect soil health and foster balanced vines; some parcels may be farmed with organic or low intervention principles depending on vintage and site.

Winemaking follows a parcel by parcel philosophy. Whites are gently pressed and undergo fermentation in barrel or neutral vessels with élevage on the fine lees to build texture and complexity; oak is used sparingly to support rather than dominate fruit. Red vinifications favour careful sorting, gentle extraction and maturation in French oak with proportions tailored to each cuvée. The overall cellar approach is traditional and measured, aiming to preserve primary aromatics while providing structure for ageing.

Stylistically Domaine Joseph Pascal wines are known for their precision, saline minerality and poised acidity in whites, and for delicate red fruit, floral lift and fine tannins in Pinot Noir. The wines often offer good early appeal while also rewarding short to medium term cellaring, reflecting the domaine’s focus on site expression and careful craftsmanship.
