Description

Grown in the heart of Bannockburn, this Chardonnay is produced from fruit across Calvert, Cornish Point and The Elms vineyards. Very Burgundian in style with good mineral quality and great ageing potential. The new oak influence is very subtle and contributes most obviously to the structure and complexity of this wine without masking the fruit. This Chardonnay is fermented and aged for 11 months in French oak (5 % new). It combines fruit from diverse sites to deliver complexity and balance.

The nose shows citrus blossom, elderflower and wet stone, whilst the palate offers ripe stone fruit and hazelnut balanced by a bright acidity and a long, focused finish. The finish is clean and persistent, reflecting the Bannockburn site’s finesse.

JAMES SUCKLING 94 points
A very rich nose with plenty of nectarine, grapefruit, yellow peach and an assertive pure fruit edge. There is a strong comparison to Chablis in style here, think Droin or Raveneau, smooth lees, flinty and stony. The palate has a smooth, creamy texture, flavors of peach, nectarine and preserved lemon; a smooth, polished and stony texture, all nicely integrated, edges into more tropical fruits to close. Great wine, long and composed. Drink now.

The 2024 Chardonnay Bannockburn has excellent clarity. It is delicately perfumed, subtle and focused with a fine texture. Restrained floral and citrus aromas join the merest touch of nutty oak, which complements the fruit. A line of bright acidity pervades through to the scented, savoury finish of medium length.
