Description
The Jean-Jacques Girard Savigny-les-Beaune Blanc 2023 is a stunning expression of Burgundy, reflecting the estate's rich history dating back to 1529. Crafted from older Chardonnay vines located near prestigious 1er Cru, this wine is aged in a combination of 500L oak barrels (80%) and stainless steel (20%) for 10-12 months, enhancing its richness and flavor intensity. It showcases enticing aromas of ripe stone fruits, citrus zest, and a touch of subtle oak. The wine's lively acidity and mineral backbone create a refreshing vitality, making it incredibly appealing. A great value among white Burgundies, it is best enjoyed from 2025 to 2029, pairing beautifully with seafood, poultry, and creamy dishes, making it a true gastronomic delight.

Dating back to 1529, Domaine Jean-Jacques Girard is a leading producer of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Aligoté wines in the commune of Savigny-lès-Beaune in Burgundy’s Côte de Beaune. Assisted by his son, Vincent, seventh-generation winemaker Jean-Jacques Girard produces wines from more than 16ha of vineyards planted across 17 appellations. These include the Savigny Premiers Crus of Les Fourneaux, Les Lavieres, Les Peuillets, Les Rouvrettes, Les Serpentieres, Les Fichots and Les Vergelesses, along with Les Fretilles 1er Cru in Pernand-Vergelesses, Clos du Roi 1er Cru in Beaune and the prestigious Grand Cru of Corton-Charlemagne.
In the cellar, the site-specific whites are fermented in oak casks of different sizes, depending on the parcel, before being matured in Burgundian oak barrels (15% new) for 10-12 months, with regular battonage until the end of malolactic fermentation. For the domaine’s top reds, grapes are fully destemmed and undergo a short maceration in open vats before temperature-controlled fermentation and maturation in 15-25% new oak for up to 15 months.
Amongst all appellations for white burgundy, Savigny-Lés-Beaune is often overlooked but produces some of the best examples of great value white burgundy punching well above their weight!
Jean-Jacques and Agnes’s son, Vincent, is now in charge of the wine-making and is increasingly aided by his younger brother François. This important domaine extends over nearly 20 hectares of all the best-known appellations of the Côte de Beaune.
This chalky parcel of older Chardonnay vines (30 year old) is nestled in between two 1er Cru. It is vinified in 500L barrels which results in producing a sublime white burgundy with richness and flavour intensity, a real treat! It is vinified 80% in oak and 20% in stainless steel for freshness and vitality. Drink 2025-2029.
