Although Paraje Altamira is renowned for its reds, the rocky soils there also produce some extraordinary whites. This Semillon is one of the most interesting of these, hailing from a 1942 vineyard planted at a height of 1,097m. Winningly balanced with floral and ripe citrus aromas alongside hints of fennel, spice and elegant oaky notes (15% was barrel-fermented), it’s unctuous in the mouth with intense freshness and a refined texture. The finish is bold and fragrant.
WINE ENTHUSIAST 92 points
Mendel was one of the first wineries to rediscover Sémillion in Argentina. This wine comes from old vines in the Uco Valley and presents delicate notes of white flowers, pear, green apple and white grapefruit, with a dash of linden tea. The oily palate introduces notes of honey, grapefruit, orange peel, white peach and pear. It has good lively acidity and saline notes in the fresh aftertaste. Drink now through 2028. — Jesica Vargas
