Description
IN BRIEF
The 2023 Chablis Grand Cru 'Les Preuses' showcases the exceptional terroir of its south-west facing slope, which enhances the wine's profile among prestigious Grands Crus neighbours. The soils, a mix of marl and chalky Kimmeridgian, allow the vines to develop robust root systems, resulting in a wine of both richness and complexity. Awarded 93 points by Decanter, it features pronounced high-toned citrus notes, including lime peel and pomelo, alongside a distinct chalky mineral character. Vinous rates it 92 points, praising its fresh, saline entry and harmonious palate, which leads to a slightly candied finish. Perfectly suited for pairing with seafood or creamy white meats, this elegant wine can be enjoyed now or cellared until 2050.

ABOUT THE WINE
This Chablis Grand Cru 'Les Preuses' is located on another exceptional terroir, on an exposed south-west slope, which dominates its Grands Crus neighbours.
Soils composed of a mixture of marl and of chalky Kimmeridgien have more depth, which allow the vines to develop their root systems and benefit from this unique terroir.
The wines are harmonious and generous, but if they are kept the cellar a few years, you will be able to fully appreciate their subtleties and complexities.
According to maturity, perfect with scallops, grilled lobster, crawfish, or in sauce fine fish, but also with poultry or white meats in cream sauce.

This seductive grand cru boasts pronounced high-toned citrus fruit with notes of lime peel and pomelo accented with a pronounced chalky mineral note. The aromas are youthful and tightly wound, yet one has the sense that, with time, they will open beautifully. The texture is lively and silky, with a lovely balance between fresh acidity and substance. The grapes are from an impressively large 2.3ha south-facing parcel at the top of the grand cru slope. Tasted blind, this wine was a standout; it will be best after five years in bottle and will last another 20.

The 2023 Chablis Les Preuses Grand Cru has a little oak to be subsumed, though this is well defined with a sense of focus and mineralité. The palate is fresh and saline on the entry, with fine weight and depth. It feels fluid, harmonious and slightly candied toward the finish. I look forward to seeing how this will age in bottle. Tasted blind at the BIVB offices in Chablis. - By Neal Martin on June 2025
