ABOUT THIS WINE
Trimbach Riesling Grand Cru 'Geisberg' 2019 is a spectacular white wine that embodies the rich heritage and meticulous craftsmanship of Trimbach, one of Alsace’s most revered producers. Under the guidance of Pierre Trimbach and his team, this Grand Cru has been cultivated with a deep understanding of its terroir, resulting in a wine that stands out for its quality and complexity.

The Geisberg vineyard is a true jewel of Alsace, situated between two other grands crus on the geological fault of Ribeauvillé. Its unique combination of limestone and sandstone subsoil, combined with old vines and a southern exposure, creates a complex terroir on its small 8.5-hectare site. This terroir is integral to producing Riesling of remarkable intensity and energy, offering finesse that ages beautifully.

In the glass, the wine typically showcases a bright, pale straw colour. On the nose, it reveals an array of complex aromas, with youthful and mature characteristics coalescing beautifully. You'll discover notes of ripe citrus and apple, combined with an intense tarragon character that adds a distinctive herbaceous quality.

On the palate, the Geisberg Riesling is medium- to full-bodied, showcasing rich textures and a kaleidoscopic flavor profile that includes chopped almond richness alongside pronounced minerality. The finish is extraordinarily long and stony, leaving a lasting impression of purity and saline nuances that reflect the vineyard's unique environment.

James Suckling awarded the wine an impressive 96 points, highlighting its complex aromas and the extraordinary minerality that defines this expression. He noted its ability to provide both youthful vibrancy and engaging depth, with a finish that lingers delightfully.

The Wine Advocate rated it at 95+ points, describing the 2019 vintage as very clear and coolish with strong herbal and floral notes on the nose. The wine is characterised by its firm structure and intense, saline finish, underscoring its potential for long aging, with the ability to be enjoyed from 2030 to 2060.

Overall, Trimbach Riesling Grand Cru 'Geisberg' 2019 is a remarkable expression of the Alsace region, offering wine enthusiasts an exceptional tasting experience. Its balance of richness, complexity, and minerality makes it a fantastic choice for pairing with gastronomic delights such as seafood, poultry, and classic Alsatian dishes, ensuring that it will impress any occasion.

JAMES SUCKLING 96 points
Very complex, with a kaleidoscopic mix of youthful and maturing aromas, plus an intense tarragon character that doesn’t neatly fit in either of those characters. Quite some chopped-almond richness on the concentrated, medium- to full-bodied palate. However, the most extraordinary thing about this wine is the enormous, stony minerality that washes over you at the extremely long finish. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.

Drink Date: 2030 - 2060
From 45-year-old vines in a southwest-facing, vertically lined 2.66-hectare plot, the 2019 Riesling Grand Cru Geisberg is very clear and coolish, even herbal and floral on the intense and finely concentrated nose. Full-bodied and quite rich in texture, this is a very intense, powerful and sustainable, firmly structured Geisberg with an aristocratic, Protestant character. The wine is pure and saline on the finish and herbal again, very intense, long and saline. This is a long-distance runner and a great wine! 14% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in April 2024.
