Description
Goulée by Cos d'Estournel, known simply as 'G', offers an accessible yet refined expression from the legendary Chateau Cos d'Estournel. The 2020 vintage beautifully showcases its origins in the northern Medoc, benefiting from esteemed winemaking expertise. This wine is typically a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, meticulously crafted for immediate enjoyment while retaining excellent depth. On the nose, it bursts with vibrant red and black fruit aromas, intertwined with subtle hints of cedar and spice. The palate is wonderfully smooth and balanced, featuring ripe tannins and a fresh acidity that leads to a persistent and elegant finish. It presents a remarkable opportunity to experience the Cos d'Estournel philosophy at superb value. This versatile claret is perfect with roasted lamb, hearty beef dishes, or a rich mushroom ragu.

This is very classic with firm, racy tannins and dark, juicy fruit. Lots of chocolate and currants. Very balanced. 90% merlot and 10% cabernet sauvignon.

Not displaying the exuberance of La Goulée that is shown in most vintages, but it has plenty of other things to make up for it. Lots of raspberry, blackberry fruits, with supple tannins and enough fresh acidities to cut through food - a great early-to-medium-term drinker. A little short on the finish, not quite as strong as the 2019 vintage. This is a soil which is pretty reactive to temperature so can be a warning sign in dry years, but at the same time there is a pretty strong estuary influence which balances things out.

The 2020 Goulée by Cos d'Estournel is very pretty and aromatic. Élevage has filled out the layers nicely, but this remains a decidedly aromatic, mid-weight vintage for the château's Médoc. Sweet pipe tobacco, leather, mint, cinnamon and dried cherry build nicely in the glass. The 2020 has come together nicely.
