There is no more significant name in Piedmont than ‘el Maestro’ Bruno Giacosa. His reputation as one of the greatest winemakers in the history of Piedmont was built over 50+ years, and the estate boasts some of the most celebrated holdings in Barolo and Barbaresco. Today’s releases from the estate, overseen by his daughter Bruna, are nothing less than exceptional.

JAMES SUCKLING 98 points
So perfumed and complex, with tangerines, jasmine, cedar, black truffle and iron. Full-bodied and very structured. Fantastic structure for the vintage. Very Barolo-like in structure. Available in 2023. Give this at least four or five years to soften.

Next to the Asili, the Bruno Giacosa 2019 Barbaresco Rabajà has even more structure and power, promising more longevity too. Thanks to the wine's natural tannic grip and structure, I suggest a longer drinking window for this expression. The Rabajà will require more time in bottle. At this young stage, it displays a pretty ensemble of dark berries, crushed rose, white stone and dusty licorice root. Patience is required here.

Giuseppe Cortese owns four hectares in Rabajà, planted 50 years ago and Guyot trained. The soil is rich in limestone and clay. Concrete fermenters were never abandoned here and today the wine matures for 22 months in Slavonian oak vessels. Restrained, almost sturdy aromas at first, an extremely vibrant wild strawberry and balsamic character in depth emerges from the glass. Plenty of layers of complexity, from tar and flowers to dried cherry, woven with firm acidity and refined tannins. Warm yet with tension and a good finish.
