This wine is a return to the great Australian reds of the 1950’s and 60’s, when Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon blends dominated the premium market. This very Australian wine is not common in any other region of the world. A blend of 73% Shiraz and 27% Cabernet, the wine is a terrific example of how these two varieties come together in a concentrated, rich and full flavoured wine that drinks well on release but will also reward cellaring for a further 6 - 8 years.
Although this wine shows typical varietal and regional characteristics, it also has the Rockford philosophy at its core – a rich, soft and full flavoured wine made using traditional winemaking techniques and attitudes. Dry conditions and higher than average temperatures in the lead up to the 2019 harvest gave us a shorter and more intense vintage. This resulted in significantly lower yields, but the intensity of colour and flavour are the great benefit of the vintage.
