Pio Cesare has been producing wine for 135 years and through 5 generations in its ancient cellars in the historical centre of Alba, Piedmont. The cellars are built on the city’s 2,000-year-old ancient Roman walls. The family owns 70 hectares of vineyards, featuring high-quality hillside exposures, with parcels dotted around multiple communes of Barolo and Barbaresco.
The Sauvignon Blanc by Pio Cesare is a wine with a strong character, vinified and aged in steel. Equipped with a beautiful straw yellow color with greenish reflections, in the nose it expresses vegetable and citrus aromas, with notes of grapefruit, lime, tomato leaf and cut grass. With a good structure, it is sapid and well balanced in the mouth, with a precise finish. The Sauvignon by Pio Cesare is perfect to drink in combination with shellfish, fish-based dishes or white meats.
THE WINE ADVOCATE 87 points - Drink Date: 2023 - 2025 - Here is a new submission from Pio Cesare, a winery with a long tradition of making red wines and the ambition to add more whites to the portfolio. This makes perfect sense given the great variability of northern Italian foods. An estate as important as this would want to have something to pair with fish, lighter salads and the foods many of us choose today. The 2022 Langhe Sauvignon Blanc opens to an almost transparent appearance with aromas of lemon drop, green tomato leaf, white stone and quince. It is watered down in texture, but there is nice freshness. - Monica Larner.
