An almost perfumed hint of hedgerow fruit precedes the richer notes of ripe apple on the nose. This is followed by lovely yeasty hints of autolysis. On the palate, these notions combine in a most convincing joyful fashion. Every tiny bubble that bursts brings some of that rounded, fruity but ultimately fresh vividness. The NV Classic Cuvée (Base 2011) was bottled June 2012 and disgorged July 2016. It has a completely different bouquet than the previous vintage Classic Cuvée releases: more mineral-driven, more focused and detailed. The palate is well balanced and quite saline, offering lemon zest and orange peel, and moderate weight but very good length. Green apples mix with nettle and light saline notes on the aftertaste. This is simply excellent. (July 2016 disgorgement)

Disgorged in January 2020, the new release of Nyetimber's NV Brut Classic Cuvée is based on the 2015 vintage, complemented by 20% reserve wines dating back to 2009. Offering up aromas of honeycomb, apple blossom, warm pastry, candied peel and nougat, it's medium to full-bodied, seamless and pillowy, with a pretty core of fruit, bright acids and an elegant pinpoint mousse.

Complex nose of pomelos, Asian pears and yellow apples with delicate notes of red summer berries and brioche. On the medium-bodied palate there’s a very attractive juicy mandarin orange character that is neatly counterpointed by the fine mousse and crisp acidity. Not bone dry, but with an animating harmony. Long, clean, citrusy finish. Excellent for an entry-level sparkling wine. A cuvee of chardonnay, pinot noir and pinot meunier. Drink or hold. - Stuart Pigott
