Description

This is awesome, the perfect mid-week wine for those who don't want the alcohol. Top notes of ripe grapes and tropical character leap from the glass. Yes, there is some residual sugar here, but everything feels beautifully balanced and in check. This wine is a tip of the hat to Selbach-Oster's continual approach to innovation.

Nestled in the heart of Germany's Mosel region, Weingut Selbach-Oster has been crafting wines of exceptional quality for over four centuries. This family-owned estate has a storied history steeped in tradition, yet it has never shied away from innovation. The winery’s roots trace back to the 17th century when the Selbach family first began their wine-making journey. Ever since, they've been tending to their steep, rocky vineyards, coaxing Riesling grapes into wines that shimmer with complexity and finesse.

Over the years, the Selbach-Oster winery has become synonymous with wines that capture the unique terroir of the Mosel. Their secret? A blend of old-world techniques, such as hand-harvesting and fermenting in traditional oak barrels, with a modern sensibility for sustainability and balance.

This wine’s tasting notes are leaning towards light bodied, high sweetness, with medium acidity, very fruity, low tannins, low alcohol and no oak.

This zero-alcohol wine is a really fascinating release, and one that signposts just how far the alcohol-free wine scene has come in the past few years. It’s got a really beautiful balance of sweetness and crispness, making it best paired with Chinese sweet ‘n’ sour dishes, Singapore noodles and Thai tofu or fish curries with sweet chilli sauce. Pork chops with a sticky glaze or apple sauce will work well, as will potato and apple fritters, Japanese tonkatsu and desserts featuring orchard fruits like apples, pears and peaches.
