Description
If Pazo Señorans demonstrates the extraordinary ageing potential of Albariño, Bodega Cuatro Rayas Amador Diez is proof that Verdejo deserves a place amongst Spain's finest white wines. Produced only in exceptional vintages from a selection of the oldest vineyards in Villanueva de Duero and Hornillos de Eresma, Amador Diez represents the pinnacle of Cuatro Rayas' winemaking. Named after the cooperative's long-serving president, it is produced in tiny quantities, with just 2,649 bottles made from the 2020 vintage.
The wine is vinified plot by plot using indigenous yeasts before spending one month ageing on its gross lees in new French and Caucasian oak barrels, followed by a further seven months on its fine lees in barrel and four months in French oak vats. This meticulous approach builds remarkable texture and complexity whilst preserving the freshness and varietal purity that define great Verdejo.
The 2020 growing season benefited from abundant winter rainfall, moderate temperatures and a long, even ripening period, resulting in wines of concentration, elegance and exceptional balance. Sandy soils and old vines contribute finesse and longevity, producing a Verdejo that is both immediately captivating and capable of ageing gracefully.
