***** “No question the best sections of Bien Nacido are the American equivalent of Grand Cru sites” – Antonio Galloni *****
It is with great pleasure that we offer the 2018 vintage from Bien Nacido Estate, Santa Barbara County. The Miller family owns many of the best vineyards in California and winemaker Trey Fletcher, a protégé of Ted Lemon at Littorai, takes full advantage of the outstanding fruit to craft the Bien Nacido Estate wines.
If you are new to California, the Bien Nacido wines make a superb introduction. If you are already well acquainted, these beautiful wines do not disappoint!
Bien Nacido’s 2018 Pinot Noir is a beautiful cool-climate expression of this great grape. Noting the lighter-bodied style, Antonio Galloni describes the 2018 as “an attractive, gracious wine”. For lovers of red Burgundy, the 2018 vintage is the perfect introduction. Awarding it another 95 Points, Wine Enthusiast praises the 2018’s “complex palate, where riper strawberry and raspberry flavors meet with dewy lavender and resinous herbs”. Old vines contribute the unique spiciness for which the Santa Maria Valley is known. Block 40, a monopole, gives a pretty floral character, whilst the San Vicente vineyard, a stone’s throw from the winery itself, offers delicious black fruits.
95 Points, Matt Kettmann, Wine Enthusiast
“Lively aromas of hibiscus, raspberry, cherry, star anise and the slightest gamy funk show on the nose of this bottling. There is a more hearty tone to the complex palate, where riper strawberry and raspberry flavors meet with dewy lavender and resinous herbs.”
89 Points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous
“The 2018 Pinot Noir Bien Nacido Vineyard is an attractive, gracious wine. Crushed flowers, cedar, spice and star anise all lift from the glass effortlessly in this open-knit, mid-weight Pinot. Silky and already approachable, the 2018 is showing well today. Overall this is a lighter-bodied vintage for the Bien Nacido Pinot.”
