Description

Château Figeac is one of the leading St. Emilion estates and its wine, with its high Cabernet content, has often been described as the most Médoc-like in St-Emilion. Since 2010 Figeac has been managed by Comte Eric d’Aramon and his wife Laure. It is located in the north-west of the appellation with its vineyards adjoining those of Cheval Blanc. Its 40 hectares of vineyards (Cabernet Sauvignon 35%, Merlot 30%, Cabernet Franc 35%) lie on a deep, Médoc-like gravel topsoil ('Graves') over a flinty, iron-rich subsoil.

THE WINE ADVOCATE RP 94
Drink Date: 2020 - 2040 - The medium garnet colored 2009 Figeac features a very pretty perfume of rose hip tea, lilacs and cinnamon stick over a core of red and black currant preserves plus hints of dried herbs and sweaty saddles. Medium to full-bodied, the palate delivers bags of savory fruit layers with plenty of floral sparks, framed by rounded tannins, finishing on a earthy note. - Reviewed by: Lisa Perrotti-Brown

JAMES SUCKLING 97
Even in this super-ripe vintage Figeac retains its usual red bell pepper aroma (from the cabernet sauvignon grape) and that adds a light touch to the opulent fruit cake and spice character. The full fine tannins beautifully support the rich palate and make the finish very long and plush. A great 2009! Drink or hold. (Horizontal Tasting, London, 2019)

DECANTER 97
Drinking Window: 2019 - 2040 - This is nudging its evolution a little quicker than the 2010. The fruit is beginning to soften, not to tertiary aspects yet, but there are hints of black truffles and woodsmoke. For me the 2010 is the clear winner of the two in terms of longevity, but this is still an extremely accomplished wine that should be celebrated. It has excellent freshness for such a warm year, showing the benefit of its Cabernets, and yet there is no austerity on display - rather it is full of beautifully seductive and richly spiced flavours. Wonderful. - Tasted by: Jane Anson Part of Anson: Tasting top La Conseillante and Figeac vintages.
