Description
Dugat-Py Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles-Vignes 2019 opens with immediate depth and a richly perfumed bouquet, showing the warmth and concentration of the vintage while retaining classic Côte de Nuits tension. The nose offers ripe red cherry, damson and blackcurrant, layered with pressed violet, rose petal and a dark spice thread of cinnamon and star anise. Beneath the fruit there is an attractive earthiness, damp loam and truffle, together with a graphite mineral note that gives clarity and focus.
On the palate the 2019 is fuller bodied than cooler vintages, yet retains poise, delivering a rounded entry, generous mid-palate density and lively natural acidity that keeps the wine fresh. Primary fruit is plush and ripe, maraschino cherry, ripe cranberry and plum, framed by savoury black tea and a discreet lick of liquorice. Tannins are ripe and well resolved for village level, offering a fine grain that supports the fruit without drying the finish. The mid-palate unfolds with layers of dark chocolate, sous bois and a warm smoky note from subtle oak élevage, while a mineral seam and saline lift provide drive and persistence.
Oak is handled with restraint, lending gentle vanilla and toasted spice that complement rather than dominate. Texture is velvety and tactile, combining immediate richness with tensile energy; the finish is long and resonant, returning to red fruit, bitter cocoa and an iron-tinged minerality.
Drink now with decanting to show aromatics and structure, or cellar for 8–15 years to allow tertiary layers of leather, dried fruit and forest floor to develop further. Serve at 15–17°C with roasted pheasant, duck, pork belly or mature hard cheeses. Dugat-Py Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles-Vignes 2019 is a generous, ageworthy Pinot that balances warmth of vintage with authentic terroir expression.

ABOUT DUGAT-PY
Dugat-Py is a small, family owned domaine in Vosne-Romanée that has earned a reputation for intensely expressive, terroir driven Pinot Noir produced with rigorous attention to detail. Under Dominique Dugat-Py and his family, the estate concentrates on a selection of prime village and premier cru sites, often working with old vines, low yields and parcel by parcel vinification to reveal the subtle differences between lieux dits. Vineyard work is meticulous and traditional, with careful canopy management, green harvesting where required and a strong emphasis on soil health and vine longevity, practices that favour concentration, phenolic ripeness and aromatic purity.
In the cellar the approach is restrained and site focused, fruit receiving gentle handling, meticulous sorting and fermentations tailored to each parcel to preserve freshness and varietal definition. Extraction is measured to respect the fine tannic weave of Pinot Noir, and élevage is typically conducted in a judicious mix of old and some new French oak according to cuvée, aimed at supporting structure and complexity rather than masking fruit character. Bottlings are made in modest volumes, with careful selection for the top cuvées, which contributes to both the quality and desirability of the domaine’s wines.
The wines of Dugat-Py are noted for their clarity of red and black fruit, floral perfume, saline mineral undertow and finely grained tannins, combining immediacy with an ability to develop layered tertiary complexity given time in bottle. There is a marked sense of place across the range, whether in village expressions that show vivacity and charm or in premier cru bottlings that offer greater depth, persistence and ageing potential. Consistency of quality, a respectful, low intervention philosophy and devotion to parcel expression have made Dugat-Py a highly regarded, collector minded producer in Vosne-Romanée, one that exemplifies Burgundy’s focus on provenance and artisanal winemaking.
