Description
Sheppy’s Oak Matured Vintage Reserve Cider is a cornerstone of the Sheppy’s range, reflecting over 200 years of cidermaking tradition in Somerset. Crafted by David Sheppy, a sixth-generation Master Cidermaker, this expression is produced using a blend of the finest traditional bittersweet cider apples, such as Dabinett and Chisel Jersey. The fruit is harvested from the estate’s own orchards and local growers, ensuring a truly regional character.
What distinguishes this cider is its maturation period in the family’s historic oak vats. This process allows the liquid to develop a sophisticated depth and complexity that sets it apart from more contemporary styles. On the nose, it offers a rich bouquet of ripe apples with subtle hints of vanilla and woody spice derived from the oak.
The palate is medium-dry and full-bodied, showcasing a harmonious balance between the natural sweetness of the fruit and the drying tannins of the Somerset apples. The oak maturation adds a smooth, rounded texture and a gentle smokiness that lingers on the finish. Crisp and refreshing yet structurally significant, this vintage reserve is a versatile companion for food, pairing particularly well with mature Cheddar, roasted pork, or hearty stews. It represents a celebration of heritage and artisanal craftsmanship.
