Description
The 2008 Dom Pérignon 'Millésime' is a landmark vintage, hailed by critics and enthusiasts alike as one of the greatest releases of the modern era. After a gloomy start to the season, a miraculous September provided the sunshine and dry winds necessary to achieve perfect ripeness. This long-awaited vintage is a blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, offering a brilliant balance between power and legendary tension. On the nose, it reveals a complex bouquet of white flowers, citrus, and stone fruits, underscored by toasted notes and a signature smoky minerality. The palate is precise and athletic, featuring a vibrant acidity and a dense, silky texture that leads to a long, saline finish. It is a sophisticated, high-energy Champagne built for incredible longevity.

The best Dom since 2002.....super fresh and intense aromas of lemons, grapefruit and blood-orange peel. Incredible freshness here. The palate has a very smoothly delivered, berry-pastry thread with light, sweet spices, stone fruit and fine citrus fruit. This really delivers. Drink now or hold."

Departing chef de cave Richard Geoffroy quite rightly calls 2008 ‘the miracle year'. Perfect ripening allowed the longest ever harvest, with four weeks available to select when, where and what to pick. The result is a magnificently complex and deceptively approachable DP, with wonderful aromatics from the off. On the palate it's very young, with classically sweet and bright citrus and oyster shell notes together with honey and nougat. This is very lithe, supple and long, with fabulous acidity and éclat. Until a couple of years ago the '08 was quite tight, but recently it has really opened up, according to Geoffroy. This can be enjoyed now but will also age effortlessly for many years yet.

Unquestionably the finest Dom Pérignon of the decade, the 2008 Dom Pérignon is drinking brilliantly today, wafting from the glass with notes of citrus oil, ripe orchard fruit, peach, buttered toast, pastry cream, iodine and smoky reduction. Full-bodied, rich and fleshy, it's vinous and layered, with a deep core of sweet fruit, racy acids and a long, saline finish. The 2008 is aging very gracefully.
