Description
Château Léoville Poyferré traces its origins back to 1740 with Alexandre de Gasq, considered the first great architect of the Léoville vineyard. The estate adopted its current name in 1840 following the marriage of Jeanne de Las Cases to Baron Jean-Marie de Poyferré.
Acquired by the Cuvelier family in 1920, the château entered a new era in 1979 when Didier Cuvelier took over the estate. Guided by Émile Peynaud and later Michel Rolland, the property modernised its vineyard practices and winemaking facilities while expanding to its current 80 hectares. Since 2018, Sara Lecompte Cuvelier has continued this pursuit of excellence.
The distinctive Poyferré style comes from 57 individual plots, nestled between Château Léoville Barton to the south, Château Léoville Las Cases to the west, Château Talbot to the east and Château Pichon Baron to the north. Each vinified separately to express its unique character.
Despite very low yields of 20.3 hl/ha, the 2025 vintage delivers remarkable depth and precision, with delicate notes of violet and camphor framed by powerful yet refined tannins destined for long ageing. A sensational tasting experience for all lovers of the Poyferré style."
