We are delighted to offer the latest releases from Shafer Vineyards.

Founded in 1978, Shafer Vineyards is situated in the Stags Leap District of Napa Valley, east of the Silverado Trail and just north of the town of Napa. Although their main focus has always been luxuriant, richly textured Cabernet Sauvignons from their Stags Leap vineyards, they own and farm vineyards also in Carneros.

Low fertility, hillside sites have always been a major priority, as has the adoption of the finest, low vigour rootstocks and clones, leading to extremely low yields of small intensely concentrated grapes. They are also passionate exponents of sustainable farming practices in which they eschew all forms of chemical sprays, and their vineyards teem with natural predators including bats, owls, and a variety of insects. The resulting raw materials are of the highest quality and provide them with numerous, stylistic options in the winery.

Winemaking, in the hands of Elias Fernandez, also follows a similar philosophy of allowing the fruit full expression and with a minimum of intervention.

This wine honours long-time Shafer Winemaker Elias Fernandez and his relentless pursuit of quality. Sourced from ridgetop vineyards adjacent to the southern border of Stags Leap District, the grapes for Relentless are a proprietary blend of Syrah and Petite Sirah. 97% Syrah, 3% Petite Sirah from Estate-grown fruit from the foothill vineyards in the Vaca Mountains, just south of the Stags Leap District, complemented by fruit from our Red Shoulder Ranch estate vineyard in Carneros.

2023 GROWING SEASON
Abundant winter rains and a mild summer with no major heat events made for a late bud break and one of the longest, coolest seasons in a recent Napa Valley history. Harvest began in early September — over two weeks later than 2022 — with extended hang time yielding fruit of intense colour, vibrant acidity, and exceptional ageing potential.
