The grapes undergo the essential appassimento process, drying for several months to concentrate sugars and flavours before a long maturation in oak.

The 2022 vintage offers a deep, concentrated ruby colour and an intense nose of dried cherries, dark chocolate, and sweet spice. On the palate, it is full-bodied and opulent, delivering layers of plum and wild berry fruit supported by velvety tannins and a surprisingly fresh finish. It is a bold, satisfying red that pairs perfectly with braised meats or mature cheeses.

Alpha Zeta was established in 1999 by David Gleave and New Zealand winemaker Matt Thompson with a vision to create a range of modern, fruit-forward wines sourced from the picturesque hills outside Verona, Italy. The partnership focuses on working closely with local growers, employing practices that prioritise the production of high-quality grapes through reduced yields and later harvesting. The meticulous winemaking process begins with grape harvesting in mid-September, allowing the fruit to reach optimal ripeness. After picking, the grapes are carefully placed in specially ventilated drying rooms, where they remain until the end of January. This drying process enhances the concentration of flavours and sugars in the grapes, critical for the production of Alpha Zeta's signature styles. Once the drying period is complete, the grapes are destemmed and crushed, ready for fermentation.
