Description
Château Batailley 2010 is a classic Pauillac of remarkable precision, depth and poise and, according to Neal Martin, perhaps the finest wine produced during the estate’s three-century history. Awarded 95 points by The Wine Advocate, 94 points by James Suckling, 94 points by Wine Enthusiast and 17/20 by Jancis Robinson, it offers a compelling combination of concentration and finesse. The nose fizzes with vivid blackberry, cedar and mineral energy, while the palate delivers layers of blackcurrant, dark fruit, graphite and tar, supported by exceptionally fine tannins and a wonderfully tensile texture. Jancis Robinson finds it sumptuously perfumed and beautifully expressive, while James Suckling praises its impressive depth and finesse. Long, elegant and built for the cellar, this is a benchmark Batailley that promises to reward patient drinking through 2060.

Tasted at the Batailley vertical tasting the château, the 2010 Batailley may well have been the best wine in a tasting that encompassed three centuries of winemaking at the estate. The nose offers outstanding delineation and mineralité. It positively fizzes in the glass with all that coiled-up energy, ladling out vivid blackberry and cedar aromas. The palate is medium-bodied, but it is the detail and precision that achieves a level that makes the 2010 a benchmark for the Pauillac estate. It sashays towards a tensile, tar and graphite-tinged finish that lingers in the mouth. This is destined for long-term aging insofar that its quality will not be widely appreciated for many years. Tasted April 2016.

JAMES SUCKLING 94 points/100
Aromas of freshly sliced mushrooms and dark fruits. Full body, with an incredible depth of fruit and finesse here. The tannins are amazing quality. Love the texture. Give it four to five years of bottle age.
WINE ENTHUSIAST 94 points/100
With advice from consultant and Bordeaux University professor Denis Dubourdieu, Batailley has improved immensely in the past few years. This 2010 reinforces that trend, revealing a wine that is structured with Cabernet Sauvignon and is attractive with black currant fruitiness. Age for the medium-term. — Roger Voss
JANCIS ROBINSON 17 points/20
This wine has really blossomed and is already looking very pretty with no evidence of any excess tannin. Beautifully perfumed with sumptuous fruit that spreads broadly across the palate. A relatively forward 2010 but bravo! Jancis Robinson
