Description
Château Canon, a prestigious 1er Grand Cru Classé B estate in Saint-Émilion, is revered for producing wines of exceptional elegance and minerality from its ancient limestone plateau. The 2021 vintage was a classically styled year, with a cool, wet spring and a temperate summer that demanded rigorous selection, resulting in wines of remarkable freshness and aromatic purity.
Comprising 71% Merlot and 29% Cabernet Franc, this wine offers an exquisite aroma of vibrant red cherry, crushed violets, and a distinct chalky minerality. On the palate, it delivers a beautifully pure and energetic experience; fine-grained tannins cradle bright red fruit flavours, perfectly lifted by a precise, refreshing acidity. The finish is long, clean, and profoundly pure, showcasing the estate's exceptional terroir and promising significant ageing potential.

A Deeper Dive;
Chateau Canon
Château Canon stands as an imposing figure at the top of Saint-Emilion. Surrounded by low walls, it feels like it is bathing in the sunshine. Its tower, perched on the limestone plateau, gazes at the nearby steeple. The area is brimming with life. Vines run all along the valley. Bursts of laughter and precise activities are exchanged and bounce off each other. People and the land join forces to form a single unit.
Canon is a reflection of the Saint-Emilion limestone-clay plateau. It operates as a single, homogeneous unit, inspiring emotion and strong convictions. This proximity between the vines, fruit and wine is reflected in every action undertaken. The work is built on constant interactions.
Pumping over by hand is preferred during winemaking to enable contact with the raw material, at the most crucial point in its transformation. Seeing it, feeling it and observing it. The soils are tilled by horse-drawn plough, to feel the terroir and stay as close as possible to its texture. Body to body. The final blend incorporates every plot from the classified vineyard, designed to serve as a combination of potential. The wine has a unique personality – a soloist in every vintage.

VINOUS - 97 Points
"The 2021 Canon shows just how magical this site is. Vertical and explosive in feel, with tons of pure power, it impresses with its intensity, drive and super-classic profile. Bright saline notes and vibrant tannins give the 2021 a feeling of energy that only gains momentum with time in the glass. It's not an easy Canon, like the 2015 or 2018, but it is incredibly expressive. It is the sort of wine that only truly emerges with time in bottle. I would be thrilled to own it. Canon must surely be one of the great relative values in first-class wine. Wow. Tasted two times."
JAMES SUCKLING - 97 Points
"Lots of crunchy red cherries and blue plums followed by violets, fresh sage and Christmas spices with baking spice and coconuts. Medium- to full-bodied with superb fine-grained racy tannins and beautifully refreshing acidity that gives an edge to it. Gorgeous finesse and elegance with harmony and precision. Delightful, too. Already drinkable but give this a few more years to come around. Try after 2026 and it should be beautiful for a long time."
