Description

The 2019 Château Malescot Saint-Exupéry is an exquisite Margaux Third Growth that perfectly exemplifies the perfume and elegance of this renowned appellation. A meticulous blend of approximately 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Petit Verdot, it pours a striking, deep garnet-purple.

On the nose, it delivers an intoxicating and highly aromatic bouquet of crushed blackberries, warm cassis, and signature wilted violets, elegantly laced with notes of dark chocolate, liquorice, and a hint of forest floor. The palate is medium to full-bodied, boasting a luxurious, velvety texture and incredibly ripe, fine-grained tannins. Bursting with concentrated, expressive black fruit and backed by a lively freshness, it concludes with a long, fragrant finish, promising magnificent cellar longevity.

Wow. This is so perfumed and mesmerizing with currant, floral and blackberry character. It’s full-bodied, yet so refined and polished with wonderfully fine-grained and crafted tannins. The finish goes on and on.

The 2019 Malescot St. Exupéry is quite possibly the most elegant wine I have tasted here. Plush and radiant, the 2019 possesses notable depth with plenty of supporting structure beneath surprisingly tamed tannins. Gravel, dark red cherry/plum, spice, leather and dried flowers build over time. The 2019 is a magical wine endowed with tremendous character. Don't miss it.

Deep dark fruit and red fruit aromas with graphite are followed by a nuanced, juicy palate with vivid fruit, bright yet suave. The tannins are just a bit foreboding on the long finish, but that’s because it is so young. Give it time in your cellar, as this excellent wine is very balanced and has structure for the long haul. And still a great deal for the quality.

The 2019 Malescot St. Exupery is generous and expressive, bursting with aromas of cassis, cherries and blackberries mingled with hints of loamy soil, dark chocolate and espresso roast. Full-bodied, broad and muscular, its fleshy core of fruit is framed by succulent acids and ripe, powdery tannins that assert themselves on the finish. This will reward a bit of bottle age with flamboyant drinking.

This rather small, family-owned estate amounts to just over 28 hectares of vines. At the time of the 1855 classification, Malescot St. Exupery was much larger, but over the years, various proprietors sold off parcels, leaving the estate's holdings mostly concentrated on the plateau. Maturation is relatively unusual, in that the wines aren't racked and see bâtonnage of the lees, and they're bottled without either fining or filtration. Since around 2000, when Jean Luc Zuger's investments and changes started to make an impact, Malescot's style became rather rich and fleshy, standing out as one of the more dramatic, demonstrative wines in the appellation.
