Description
Château Musar Red 2019 from Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley, continues the legacy established by Gaston Hochar. This wine is a unique blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault, and Carignan, sourced from organic vineyards situated at 1,000 metres above sea level. The 2019 vintage was shaped by a snowy winter followed by a cool spring and a typically hot Mediterranean summer, resulting in fruit with excellent concentration and balanced acidity.
The winemaking process remains steadfastly traditional. Each variety is fermented separately in concrete vats before spending one year in French Nevers oak barrels. The components are then blended and aged in the bottle at the estate’s cellars in Ghazir before release. The 2019 vintage reveals a complex bouquet of baked plums, dried cherries, and figs, intertwined with notes of cedar, leather, and exotic spices.
On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, showcasing the characteristic Musar structure. The Cinsault provides elegance and red fruit aromatics, while the Carignan and Cabernet Sauvignon offer depth, dark fruit, and firm tannins. With its vibrant acidity and long, savoury finish, the 2019 vintage possesses significant ageing potential and pairs exceptionally well with spiced lamb, venison, or roasted Mediterranean vegetables.
