Ghislaine Barthod’s domaine originated in the 1920s with Marcel Noëllat, whose daughter married Gaston Barthod, a soldier stationed in Dijon. His daughter, Ghislaine, and her partner, Louis Boillot, bought their current premises, overlooking the Premier Cru of Les Feusselottes, in 1986. Though they share the team who work the vineyards, the vinification and commercial aspects of their businesses are kept entirely separate. The domaine has an incomparable range of Chambolle-Musigny terroirs, with 11 separate Premier Cru bottlings and highly regarded Bourgogne and village wines. Clément Boillot – Ghislaine and Louis’s son – has overseen vinification at both domaines since 2018, although both parents are still here full-time.

The 2023 vintage is a great success at both estates. Clément and Ghislaine view the vintage as one to get excited about, especially with the minute quantities in 2024. As usual, the fruit was all de-stemmed and on average 20% new oak was used for the Premiers Crus. There was a little more new wood than usual on the Bourgogne Rouge. Interestingly, Clément has decided to rack the wines to tank for the second winter. This, he argues, will bring more freshness and tension. Leaving them longer in barrel would only soften and dry them out, he thinks.
