Description

El Enemigo is the celebrated joint venture between Adrianna Catena and Alejandro Vigil, Chief Winemaker at Bodega Catena Zapata. Their 'El Barranco' Single Vineyard Bonarda 2018 is a masterful expression of Argentina’s second-most planted red grape, elevating it to extraordinary new heights. Sourced from a traditional pergola vineyard in Mendoza, this wine showcases Vigil’s signature approach of combining deep concentration with remarkable freshness.

The 2018 vintage, considered exceptional in the region, yielded fruit with outstanding balance. In the glass, it pours a deep, opaque purple. The alluring nose bursts with aromas of wild blackberries, dark cherries, and ripe plums, beautifully layered with notes of liquorice, dark chocolate, and a hint of fresh aromatic herbs.

On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied, offering a vibrant core of dark berry fruit framed by fine-grained, elegant tannins. A distinct, racy acidity - a hallmark of the El Enemigo style - runs through the wine, lifting the rich fruit and providing exceptional tension and energy. The finish is long, savoury, and subtly spiced.

This is a sophisticated and highly drinkable Bonarda. It makes an outstanding partner for traditional Argentine empanadas, grilled sausages, roasted pork, or rich, tomato-based pasta dishes.
