Description
El Enemigo, the celebrated partnership between Adrianna Catena and master winemaker Alejandro Vigil, continues to redefine the potential of Argentine Bonarda. The 'El Barranco' Single Vineyard 2020 is a thrilling expression of this historic grape, sourced from traditional pergola-trained vines in Mendoza. Typical of Vigil’s innovative style, the Bonarda is beautifully enhanced by a small addition of Cabernet Franc, which imparts brilliant aromatic lift and structural finesse.
The 2020 vintage was characterised by warm, dry conditions, resulting in an earlier harvest that captured exceptional fruit concentration while strictly maintaining vibrant acidity. In the glass, it reveals a deep, intense violet colour. The nose is wonderfully expressive, offering an alluring bouquet of crushed blueberries, dark cherries, and violets, layered with hints of black pepper, liquorice, and wild mountain herbs.
On the palate, it is beautifully textured and medium to full-bodied. The rich, dark berry fruit is perfectly balanced by chalky, fine-grained tannins and the signature racy acidity that defines the El Enemigo portfolio. The finish is remarkably long, fresh, and slightly savoury. This is a highly sophisticated, energetic wine that pairs magnificently with slow-roasted lamb, charcuterie boards, or a traditional rich meat ragù.
