Description

Based in the small Castilla y León DO of Cigales, Finca Museum is both a winery and a museum. While the region experiences an extreme continental climate, it is the Tinta del País (Tempranillo) grape that truly excels here. In 2023, Finca Museum further cemented its commitment to the environment by achieving certification from Sustainable Wineries for Climate Protection (SWfCP).

The ‘Museum’ Reserva is sourced from dry-farmed bush vines that are over 70 years old, planted at an altitude of 750 metres above sea level. The incredibly poor soils - comprising layers of gravel, sand, limestone, and chalk over clay - alongside the harsh climate, result in exceptionally low yields. This gives the thick-skinned grapes outstanding concentration and intensity.

The 2020 vintage began with a mild winter and a rainy spring that replenished essential soil water reserves. A dry, warm summer promoted healthy development, leading to an earlier harvest under favourable conditions, yielding balanced fruit with excellent aromatic expression and freshness.

Following a careful hand-harvest into crates and table sorting, the grapes were destemmed and fermented in stainless-steel vats at 25°C. After a 21-day maceration to achieve maximum extraction of colour and flavour, the wine was aged for 14 months in French oak barrels. It then matured for an additional 12 months in bottle prior to release.

Deep ruby red in colour, the wine opens with aromas of red berries, blackcurrants, and cranberries. The red fruit continues onto a rich palate, accompanied by savoury spice and liquorice, leading to a long finish with hints of roasted hazelnut.
